Inner Line Permit to have negative impact on state: Meghalaya Governor

SHILLONG: Meghalaya Governor, Satya Pal Malik observed that the implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) would have a negative impact on the State.

“I am not against implementing ILP if it is for the safety and protection of the indigenous community of the state. But ILP will have a negative impact since there will be no investment and tourism sector would be the worst affected. My opinion is that it will be harmful for the State,” Malik stated here today.

Meghalaya Governor further observed that majority of the dhabas and shops along Shillong to Guwahati road are closed, adding that the people who are badly affected from this are the poor people.

“I am sure nobody will visit Meghalaya if ILP is implemented,” Malik said.

He however reiterated that he is not against implementing this law if it is required for protecting the indigenous community.

Meanwhile, the Meghalaya Governor is of the view that ILP would not be required in the State if the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act (MRSSA) is implemented.

“I am going to plead for the implementation of the MRSSA before the Centre if I am the Chief Minister and would consider about ILP later,” Malik said.

He however said that the implementation of the MRSSA would require the support of the Centre.
