SHILLONG/TURA:

The Meghalaya Congress will shortly release the first list of candidates who will contest the upcoming Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC ) elections.

The party (Congress) has completed the first draft of candidates after the MPCC Executive Committee meeting held at Songsak today.

Close sources have informed that the party has decided to field candidates from all 29 seats.

Congress Spokesperson, Zenith Sangma, had earlier said that the National People’s Party (NPP) will face the heat of anti-incumbency factor because of the rampant corruption which has been seen in the past and has been continuing in the GHADC.

“We are going to get single-party majority to form the next EC since the people are fed up with the NPP,” said Congress spokesperson Zenith.

He alleged that public money has not been used properly and there is corruption surfacing in the process of implementation of different projects.

“For the past 32 months, employees of the GHADC have not got their salaries. Our election campaign will revolve around issues of corruption and the non-payment of salaries to the employees of the council,” he observed.
