Meghalaya Border Area Development Minister Lahkmen Rymbui said that the department would soon release funds for the Inter-State Border Area Development Programme (ISBADP) for various developmental projects along the inter-state border.
Speaking during the Question Hour on the fifth day of the Meghalaya Assembly Autumn Session on Thursday, Rymbui said that funds under this programme are being sanctioned as per the availability.
Replying to a supplementary question raised by Congress MLA from Nongpoh Mayralborn Syiem, Rymbui said that funds could not be sanctioned during 2019-2020 due to lack of funding.
“The department will examine the 111 villages along the inter-state border in Ri-Bhoi district that are yet to be notified,” Rymbui said.
He said that the department would allot funds to 111 villages under the ISBADP if they are found eligible as per the criteria.
Replying to another question raised by the Nongpoh legislator, Rymbui said that the state government would examine the appointment of the Border Area Development Officer in Ri-Bhoi.
Rymbui also informed that the fund which has been sanctioned since the conceptualisation of the Border Area Development Programme (ISBADP) in 2011-2012 is Rs. 39.55 crore.
The minister also maintained that various line departments have taken up projects for developing villages along the inter-state border.
