Facts about newly appointed Archbishop of Shillong Bishop Victor Lyngdoh

His Holiness Pope Francis has appointed Most Reverend Victor Lyngdoh (64), currently Bishop of Jowai, as Archbishop of Shillong.

The announcement was made public in Rome on December 28 afternoon corresponding to 16:30 hours, Indian Standard Time (IST).

Here are some facts about Bishop Victor Lyngdoh, Archbishop of Shillong

Bishop Victor Lyngdoh was born on January 14 1956, at Wahlang Village, East Khasi Hills District, Meghalaya.

He entered St. Paul’s Seminary in Shillong pursuing his studies at St. Gabriel’s Higher Secondary School and studied Philosophy at Christ King College in Shillong, subsequently spending his Regency at St. Francis Xavier Church, Mawsynram.

Lyngdoh entered Sacred Heart Theological College in Mawlai where he was ordained priest on January 25 1987.

In 1987-1990 he served as the Assistant Parish Priest, Resurrection Church, Pynursla.

From 1992 to 1994 Lyngdoh was the Parish Priest at Blessed Sacrament Church, Laitlyngkot and the Headmaster at Laitlyngkot High School.

Lyngdoh became the Parish Priest at Mary Help of Christians Cathedral, Shillong from 2005 to 2006.

Lyngdoh took on the role of the Bishop of Nongstoin in 2006 to 2016 and finally was appointed the Bishop of Jowai.
