East Garo Hills pays tribute to Capt. Williamson Sangma

WILLIAMNAGAR:

The East Garo Hills district administration observed the 30th Death Anniversary of Capt. Williamson A. Sangma, the first Chief Minister of Meghalaya, at the Deputy Commissioner’s office on October 23.

Deputy Commissioner, Swapnil Tembe attended the event as the chief guest.

Tembe lauded the tireless efforts of Capt. Sangma to preserve the identity of the hill people and to bring development and welfare to them. He also encouraged the people to contribute to the hill state, which came into existence because of Capt. Sangma’s efforts.

The ADC, A Ch Marak, delivered the welcome address and Deputy Commissioner of Labour, Mirzahan N Marak, read out a brief life history of Capt. Sangma.

The other highlights of the anniversary included the gun salute by the police and laying floral wreaths in tribute to the prominent leader.

The function was presided over by District Public Relations Officer WG Momin in the presence of EAC Saljong R Marak.
