TURA:

Tura Lok Sabha MP Agatha Sangma, on Friday, chaired a day-long District Coordination & Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting at the Circuit House in Tura.

“This is the first Disha meeting held this year because of the pandemic, as many of the flagship programmes have also faced various challenges and issues,” she said.

She also urged all the line departments to include COVID-19 while discussing the programmes and how to cope with the present situation while implementing the schemes in the district.

Meanwhile, West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Ram Singh said the Disha meeting is being held to ensure effective development and coordination of the Central Government’s programme and to monitor the implementation of schemes and programmes in a time-bound manner.

Singh urged all the departments to address their challenges and other issues and also advised them to work in convergence with various line departments for the progress and development in the region.

Selsella MLA Ferlin Sangma enquired about the low performance of Selsella Block compared to other blocks in the district during the presentation of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS).

The response she received was that the performance was low because of floods that occurred earlier this year and because there had been issues related to the bifurcation with Demdemma block and few other disputes in the past few years.

Besides this, the Member of the Parliament observed that there were many incomplete PMAY(G) houses in the district during the presentation of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin) PMAY (G) which is the Rural Housing Scheme.
