Congress launches ‘Save Meghalaya campaign’ against NPP-led MDA govt
The Opposition Congress today announced the ‘Save Meghalaya campaign’ against the National People’s Party (NPP)-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) Government for its alleged failure in tackling several illegalities and COVID-19 issues.
According to the state unit Congress party, the campaign has been announced against the ruling government for its "failure to address the ongoing illegalities, its unpreparedness to tackle the COVID-19 situation, for looting the State and the lack of development and opportunities for the youth."
Talking to reporters here on Friday, Leader of Opposition Dr Mukul Sangma said this campaign is the need of the hour to send a message to the ruling coalition government that "enough is enough."
“I would invite the Civil Society Organisations and individuals alike to join me in this endeavour,” he said.
Elaborating on the campaign, Dr Mukul said that there is a lack of livelihood opportunities, jobs for the youths adding that there is a growing frustration and anger amongst them.
He said that the incumbent government is pushing the State back to the past, a period which the State does not want to remember.
The Leader of the Opposition also questioned the "inability" of the Home Department in filling up the vacancies.
He said that the Special Force-10 constables are being asked if they are willing to be transferred to their battalions to fill up the vacancies that arise out of retirement.
“Rather than creating job prospects, they are cheating the youths,” Leader of Opposition said.
Dr Mukul also said that the Government should create hope, opportunities and deal with the frustration of the state.
