Commercial vehicle strike in Meghalaya: Section 144 imposed in West Khasi Hills District

The Deputy Commissioner of West Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya, T Lyngwa has imposed section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) following an indefinite strike called by the Meghalaya Joint Action Committee of Commercial Vehicle from Feb 3.

The DC observed that the strike "might affect normal lives like the flow of traffic and the access of commuters to transportation to attend to their daily needs."

Under Sec 144 prohibits any type of coercion, intimidation and undue influence by any person or group of persons to disturb the free flow of traffic and commercial activities of transporters and also to disturb the peace and normal life in the District.
