Anthony Syiem among others receive award on Meghalaya statehood day

On the 49th celebration of Meghalaya statehood, Ri Bhoi District, Nongpoh presented a Special Award to Anthony Syiem, combat kickboxer and the winner of the slogan competition ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ and also a certificate of appreciation to the three staff members of the Deputy Commissioner’s office.

Addressing the gathering, Mayral Born Syiem, MLA, Nongpoh recalled with gratitude the hard-fought and selfless sacrifices rendered by the fore leaders.

“Our forefathers and past leaders were visionaries and dreamers to achieve a state of our own, despite many challenges faced by them, but their united efforts with the desire of the public to recognise the traditions and values have ensured the people a state of their own,” said Syiem.

Mayral Born Syiem also reminded the footsteps of our patriots like U Tirot Singh, U Kiang Nongbah and Pa Togan Sangma who have contributed for the sake of the country.

The Congress legislator lauded and appreciated the government employees from different departments for their ceaseless efforts in rendering their duties, and wished them to dedicate their work for the benefit of the people in the years ahead.

Patriotic songs and cultural dances marked the statehood celebration.
