After ten years, Shillong boxers get due recognition

 |

The young boxers of Upper Shillong Boxing Association (USBA) on January 9 received appreciations, acknowledgement and financial assistance to further popularise the sport in the state.

Cabinet minister and Mylliem MLA, Hamletson Dohling provided a cash incentive of Rs 50,000 to the young boxers in an event organised by the East Khasi Hills Boxing Association at Upper Shillong.

Addressing the gathering, Dohling lauded the young boxers for their efforts and achievements in various disciplines.

The felicitation programme was held weeks after TNT-The Northeast Today highlighted the plights of these young boxers who, despite the lack of financial and infrastructural support, managed to fight all odds and strive forward.

The event was attended by the Rangbah Shnong or the headman of Nongkseh, members of the association along with the trainees.

The Upper Shillong Boxing Association also handed over a memorandum to the minister seeking his intervention into the urgent need for a permanent place for training as they have been using rented places for ten years now.

The MLA also handed cash incentive of Rs 50,000 to the East Khasi Hills Boxing Association to enable them to support the players with the basic facilities required by them.
