TURA:

The 33rd edition of the annual Garo Hills cricket tournament organised by the Tura District Cricket Association began today (February 10) at the Asanang playground in West Garo Hills district of Meghalaya.

The tournament, that began in the year 1988, will see 20 teams.

The tournament is being played by dividing the teams into four groups of five teams each with each team playing against the others in the group.

Four toppers from the group will be promoted to A division. Each inning is played 20 overs per side.

Teams from across the five districts will play against each other.

The first match today was played by Tura’s Krimkro against the cricket team from Wadanang, also in Tura.

Batting first, the Wadanang team scored 83 runs, leaving an easy chase that the Krimkro men mastered with ease.

The second match saw action between Red Bull United against Northern United.

Batting first, the Red Bull team scored 88, despite a good start. Northern United, which closed the game in the 10 overs chased the runs with ease.

A division cricket of the same tourney is likely to begin on Feb 16 and will be played between eight teams.
