Meghalaya: Rumours over Prestone joining NPP to be sealed on Oct 7

SHILLONG, Sept 28, 2017: Speculations over former minister Prestone Tynsong over joining the Nationalist People's Party (NPP) will be finally sealed on October 7 as a large number of Congress supporters in Pynursla would be joining the party.

It is expected that more than 10,000 people are expected to enroll as primary members of the Nationalist People's Party (NPP).

While speaking to sources on Wednesday, Prestone Tynsong who is the sitting MLA from Pynursla constituency will not be present in this meeting which would be held at the ground near the PHE office at Pynursla.

Meanwhile close sources revealed that the Congress is trying to persuade the present director of Commerce and Industries department, Nehru Suting to contest against Tynsong in the upcoming 2018 Assembly election. However, even the UDP is trying to convince Suting to contest from the party.

Suting  who is known to be close to the Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma is most likely that the Congress will win this battle over the UDP.

However, sources revealed that the UDP delayed the release of its second list of candidates since they want Suting on board.

It is not clear which party Suting would be contesting but it is almost certain that the Pynursla constituency will see a three corner contest in the upcoming Assembly election with the third contender for this prestigious seat being the sitting MDC from Nongskhen, Grace Mary Kharpuri, who is contesting from the newly formed People's Democratic Front (PDF).

With the Congress supporters joining the NPP, this has shown that the attempt of the MPCC to revamp the party by dissolving the Block Congress Committee in Pynursla has turn out to be a total failure. Even nearly two months after the dissolution of the previous BCC, the MPCC till date has not been able to install a new body.
