Meghalaya: Nongstoin Mawthabah road, KSU opposes UCIL’s call for tender
SHILLONG: The proposed construction of the Nongstoin-Mawthabah road has suffered yet another stumbling block with fresh oppositions being raised by the Khasi Students Union (KSU) against the move of the Uranium Corporation of India Limited (UCIL) to call for tender to construct the said road.
According to the President of the KSU Daniel Khryiem, he said that the KSU strongly oppose and condemn the tender called by the UCIL on July 2 through newspapers to immediately start the construction of the Nongstoin-Mawthabah road while alleging that the same is done with an intention to mine uranium in South West Khasi Hills.
While condemning this move, Khyriem said that UCIL's non-adherence to the customary rules of the KHADC clearly reflects its stance in this matter by bypassing the state government and the KHADC prior to the attainment of the NOC.
The KSU president further said that the organisation will shoot a complaint letter to Chief minister Dr Mukul Sangma and also to the KHADC chief on this matter.
