Leader of Opposition, Dr Mukul Sangma has stated that the law and order situation along the inter-state border can boil down if the state government stops delaying a dialogue with their Assam counterparts.

"The Assam Government has delayed to act on the necessary documents and papers submitted by the Meghalaya Government to submit its claims on the areas of differences," Dr Mukul said while speaking to reporters here on Tuesday.

"It looks like the Assam cannot counter on the claims of the Meghalaya Government on the areas of differences," Sangma added.

Questioning the insensivity of the NPP-led MDA government in dealing with the issue of border dispute with Assam, Sangma questioned whether the state government which includes Chief Secretary, DCs and SPs of the inter-state border districts held discussions with the Assam government to ensure law and order along the areas of difference.

The former Chief Minister further observed that the border dispute cannot be resolved unless the political parties of both the states politicise it.

It may be mentioned that talks at the level of either the Chief Minister or Chief Secretary of both Assam and Meghalaya have not taken place for a long time while skirmishes continue to take place along the border.
