Meghalaya :Mukul Sangma gets support from State BJP to tackle Militancy
The State of Meghalaya saw a unique show of solidarity with the BJP state unit supporting the demand of Mukul Sangma for deployment of more para military forces in Garo Hills to tackle militancy.
This is the first step of constructive opposition that the state unit of BJP has taken and this is seen as a welcome step by many leaders across party lines
State unit President and lok sabha candidate for 2014 lok sabha election Shibun Lyngdoh said the party said will soon be meeting union home minister Rajnath Singh and support to demand of the Congress led state government for deployment of more para military forces to Garo hills to tackle GNLA led militancy amongst host of smaller splinter groups
Thee BJP also stated that the need of the hour in Garo hills was for peace and not petty politics. It may be stated that Mukul Sangma had met the Home Minister recently and asked for central forces to tackle militancy.Last year on a visit to shillong minister of home for state Kirran Rijiju had also stated that the Mukul Sangma led government was doing a good job in handling law and order.
Welcoming this move of the BJP a congress spokesperson said that solving militancy was not a political matter but that of national interest .Taking a jibe at NPP leadership and especially PA Sangma who has been critical of Mukul Sangma handling of the law and order in Garo Hills ,the spokesperson also said perhaps a thing or two can be learned by the aging stalwart from the newly inducted BJP president on keeping the interest of the state above partisan politics.
