Meghalaya: Mukul attacks Conrad over Smart City project

Opposition Leader Dr Mukul Sangma cornered Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on the issue of confidentiality and secrecy while replying to the Smart City project during the Question Hour on the second day of the ongoing autumn session of the Assembly here today.

Chief Minister in his reply had told that the House that the Union Minister of State independent Housing and Urban Development, Hardeep Singh Puri has given a lot of positive response to the request of the State Government to enhance the funding pattern of the "Smart City" project.

'But it will not be right on my part to express all the issues that was discussed. There are confidential matters I would not like to share right now," Chief Minister added.

To this reply , Dr Mukul said that he would like to know to which secrecy the Chief Minister is speaking about.

"I would like to know under which provisions of the rules of the conduct of business of this House that the secrecy cannot be revealed in this House. The secrecy which cannot be revealed in this House is already and clearly been indicated in the Rules and Procedures of Conduct of Business," Opposition Leader said.

He further said that it is an unprecedented tendency of this Government to withhold the information and sharing of information before this House.

The Chief Minister said that the leader of opposition is going into some other aspect. "As a responsible member of this House, it is my duty not to mislead. I would be able to provide the details of the deliberations until it fructifies," Chief Minister said.

Assembly Speaker, Dr Donkupar Roy who finally intervened stated that the Chief Minister during the course of his reply had stated that the deliberations with the Union Minister is incomplete.

"Therefore, there is no point to discuss on the issue of secrecy," Dr Roy added.
