Meghalaya | Man assaulted for rape attempt in Mawlai

A 40-year-old man was assaulted at Mawlai Mawroh after he allegedly attempted to rape a mentally challenged girl on Thursday.

The accused has been identified as Uttam Biswa. He worked as a carpenter in a house close to the girl's.

Sources said that Biswa attempted to rape the girl when she home alone. However, his attempt failed when the girl's uncle arrived home.

Upon hearing of the incident, an angry crowd assaulted Biswa in the afternoon.

East Khasi Hills SP Davis Marak confirmed that the Mawlai police station received a complaint from the girl's family.

Biswa was later handed over to Mawlai police and has been taken to Civil Hospital for treatment.
