SHILLONG, Oct 15, 2017: A proud moment for Meghalaya indeed as one of its athletes, Hame Shaniah Suiam from Shillong has been selected to represent the country in the WAKO Senior and Masters World Championships to be organized in Budapest from 3rd to 12th November 2017.

21-year-old Suiam, who has 4 national medals to his credit, is a lone participant from Meghalaya besides 2 from Tripura and 5 from Sikkim to represent the country in the international sporting event.

Apart from winning medals in the state and regional level, Suiam has bagged 4 national medals – 3 gold and 1 bronze.

Later in 2015, he again represented the country in the senior world championships. This time around, Suiam is hopeful that he can earn a medal for his country.

"I am hopeful that I will be able to make my state, region and my country proud by winning a medal in the world championships," Suiam said adding that he will be leaving India for Hungary on Nov 2.

He was selected as one of the 58 members of the Indian squad during the national coaching camp held on October 1-8 under the supervision of foreign coaches and trainers from Russia and Italy.
