Meghalaya Govt. to build infrastructure for National Games in existing Govt. land

The Chief Minister along with Sports and Youth Affairs Minister, Banteidor Lyngdoh had left for Delhi to approach various Ministries of the Union Government to help the State in the allocation of funds for the preparation of the infrastructure of the National Games.

Taking into account the financial crisis in the State, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said that they are looking to build the infrastructure for the National Games in the existing Government land which are available in and around Shillong city.

"We are trying to avoid the additional financial burden of purchasing land for construction of the infrastructure for the National Games," Conrad told media persons after the meeting of the High Powered Committee of the National Games here today.

He said that the Government is looking to construct the National Games stadium and the games village in the Government land which is available in and around Shillong.

The Chief Minister along with Sports and Youth Affairs Minister, Banteidor Lyngdoh had left for Delhi to approach various Ministries of the Union Government to help the State in the allocation of funds for the preparation of the infrastructure of the National Games.

Earlier, the Union Ministry of Social Justice had sanctioned a total amount of Rs 300 crore for the construction of the National Games stadium at the New Shillong Township.

Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong had also  informed that the State Government at the same time has identified 70 acres of land for  the construction of games villages in Mawdiangdiang adding that the Government would have to mop up its own resources for the Games village.

He also informed that the process of engaging consultants, architects and the CEO of the National Games will be over by November 15.
