The Meghalaya Election department is fully geared up to conduct the forthcoming bye-elections in South Tura and Ranikor constituencies.
Informing this here today, Meghalaya Chief Electoral Officer, Frederick R Kharkongor said that a total number of four companies of Central Armed of Police Forces (CAPF) have been deployed each in South Tura and Ranikor to ensure that there is no untoward incident during the elections.
He also said that the district administrations and the police machinery have taken all the possible steps for the smooth conduct of the elections.
According to Kharkongor, the first level checking of EVMs and VVPATs to be used in the 65 polling stations in Ranikor constituency and 35 polling stations in South Tura constituency has already been completed.
He further said that a total number of 29,000 plus voters will cast their votes for the Ranikor bye-election while 31,000 voters will cast their votes for the South Tura bye-poll.
Informing that the campaign in the two poll-bound constituencies will end at 5 pm tomorrow, he said that no exit polls will be allowed till the day of counting.
The CEO also informed that the election officials have seized a total amount of Rs 12, 86,000 in the last two days in Ranikor adding that the Appellate Committee headed by the Deputy Commissioner to investigate on the money that was seized.
