Meghalaya: Disbanded senior cadre of UALA joins mainstream, spate of surrenders continues in GH

TURA, March 7 2017: As the spate of surrenders continues in Garo Hills, yet another hardcore militant came forward and joined the mainstream on Tuesday even as police claimed that extensive police operations is the driving force behind his surrender.

According to the Superintendent of Police East Garo Hills Vivekanand Singh, one person identified as Jijabell C Marak (25) alias Asim hailing from Nongalbibra in South Garo Hills surrendered before the EGH police in the presence of church leaders and family members today (March 7).

Marak was a member of the United A.chik Liberation Army (UALA) from 2013 till its disbandment and was trying to form a new militant group named – United A.chik National Front (UANF).

"However due to ongoing CI operations and efforts from the civil societies, he surrendered today," Singh Said.
