The Meghalaya Cabinet has approved the proposal of the Transport department to increase the "one time tax" on the various category vehicles.
"We have decided to increase the one time tax to 4 percent on vehicles whose original cost is upto Rs 3 lakh," Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong told reporters after the cabinet meeting here today.
Tynsong also informed that they have decided to increase the one time tax to 6 percent on vehicles costing Rs 3 lakh and above adding that the one time tax on vehicles costing between Rs 15 to Rs 20 lakh has been increase to 8 percent.
"The one time tax on vehicles costing over Rs 20 lakh has been increase to 10 percent," the Deputy Chief Minister said adding that the last enhance was done way back in 2011.
Replying to a query, Deputy Chief Minister said that the annual revenue will increase by Rs 22 to Rs 23 crore in view of the increase of the tax on vehicles.
Setting up of two-member committee in MSERC
Meanwhile, the Cabinet also approved the proposal of setting up of the two members commission in the Meghalaya State Electricity and Regulatory Commission (MSERC).
It may be mentioned that the Supreme Court recently directed the various State Governments across the country to constitute the committee with the retired Chief Justice or judges of the High Court or retired judges of the District as a member.
"We have constitute this committee in according with the directive of the court," he said.
