In yet another case of mob violence that has come to light from Meghalaya, an angry mob today in the town of Williamnagar beat up a worker from a tailor shop after a woman accused him of molestation.
Sources informed that the incident occurred at around 6 pm this evening after a woman accused the tailor who was allegedly taking measurements of a cloth to be made for the woman when the incident of molestation occurred. The incident took place at the Willaimnagar Main Bazar.
The woman incidentally raised an alarm after which the mob gathered and thrashed the man leading to him becoming unconscious. Allegedly, a police team was present at the scene of the incident though they could not immediately take preventive measures to avoid the thrashing of the accused.
"A police team reached the spot and immediately rushed him to hospital. He was unconscious when he was found by them. He has been rushed for medical treatment though at the moment we cannot say what exactly occurred. Currently we are working on controlling the situation," said district police chief, Ringrang TG Momin.
The police however could not confirm if the person had succumbed to the injuries due to the mob thrashing. An investigation into the incident is currently on.
