Meghalaya: AMEF cadre surrenders in East Garo Hills

TURA, March 23: A hardcore militant of the almost defunct Achik Matgrik Elite Force (AMEF) surrendered in the town of Williamnagar in East Garo Hills in front of a team led by the SP of the district.

The cadre, identified as Raksim Ch Momin (Arikam, 22) was earlier a part of the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) and had joined the outfit in 2012 as part of its 5th batch.

Momin had left the GNLA to jointly found another outfit, ASAK along with Reding T Sangma. He hails from the village Dinangre in Williamnagar and surrendered to the superintendent of police, Vivekanand Singh in WGH in the presence of family and Church members.

Police sources stated that Momin had been infamous for his notoriety in both districts of East and South Garo Hills. He had earlier surrendered to the police team in Baghmara in South Garo Hills in 2014 and had been arrested and lodged in Williamnagar Jail.

Momin later became part of the Williamnagar jailbreak in 2015 wherein another 4 convicts also managed to escape and later joined the Jack Marak led AMEF before leaving the outfit and going solo in committing crimes, mostly in the SGH.
