Meghalaya: 46 UALA cadres to disband on Thursday

SHILLONG: The much awaited disbanding ceremony of the United Achik Liberation Army (UALA) shall be observed on June 9 on Thursday at 2 pm in SMELC main conference Hall, Dakopgre, Tura in the presence of Chief Minister Mukul Sangma who shall also be the Chief Guest in the presence of other dignitaries including ministers, MLAs, churc leaders and senior citizens.

As per the list submitted by UALA chairman, 46 cadres will join the disbanding ceremony and bid farewell to arms. They shall also hand over weapons like AK series weapons, an LMG and pistols along with ammunition.

It has also been assured that the commander-in-chief, Norrok will also participate in the disbanding ceremony. All arrangements are being made for a meaningful and successful yet a simple programme.

There are already 27 cadres in Baljek camp for whom the verification process is also complete and for the remaining 19, it will be carried out in the same day .

The district administration with police, officials as well as non official interlocutors have been conducting a series of meetings in the past to pave way for disbanding.

In view of the spate of surrenders, it is hoped that the disbanding ceremony will be an opportunity for mainstreaming the cadres and set the stage for greater peace and reconciliation.
