Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting to inaugurate Golden Jubilee celebration of Manipuri cinema

Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting Prakash Javadekar will inaugurate the Golden Jubilee celebration of Manipuri Cinema on April 9.

Manipuri Cinema will complete 50 years since the first Manipuri feature film, Mataamgi Manipur, was released on April 9, 1972.

To mark the occasion, the Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS) has charted out a year-long programme at an estimated cost of Rs 5.23 crore.

“Chief Minister, N Biren Singh met the Union I&B minister and submitted a detailed programme proposal for which he sought financial assistance for the celebration,” Secretary of the Society, Sunzu B, said.

Singh also invited the Union Minister to inaugurate the celebration as the Chief Guest at the MSFDS complex.

Meanwhile, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar assured the Chief Minister of all assistance to make the event a grand success.

Conceived by a 17 member organising committee, the Golden Jubilee Celebration envisages various film events to support film production in Manipur at all levels.
