Teachers’ Association of Manipur continues to protest

IMPHAL:

The Federation of Government College Teachers’ Association (FEGOCTA) continued a sit-in protest for the 5th day in a row in Manipur.

FEGOCTA on Wednesday said "the college teachers feel cheated, demoralised and increasingly agitated because the association has been requesting for implementing the national policy of University Grants Commission (UGC) in Manipur since December 2018."

FEGOCTA further said that they have been demanding for implementing UGC pay since 2018, and they cannot accept the delay in its implementation on the COVID-19 pandemic excuse.

They also alleged that the Higher Education department had not sent the file to the Finance Department even after over five months of the State Cabinet’s approval on August 6, 2020, for its implementation.

The association further warned that they may intensify the agitation with other forms of democratic protests if the government remains silent on their demand.
