IMPHAL:

Hundreds took to the streets in several parts of Manipur on Wednesday, during the state-wide 48-hr bandh called by the All Manipur Muslim Students Organisation (AMMSO) and Pangal Student’s Union, Dhanamanjuri University (PSU-DMU) from October 28.

The bandh was called to demand for extension of the four per cent reservation in all non-professional courses of higher education institutes, run by the state government and Central university in Manipur, along with the rectification of inappropriate filling of OBC (Meitei Pangal) quota by the non- Manipuri Muslims.

The student bodies had also submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister, N Biren Singh on Monday, stating that the literacy rate of Manipuri Muslims is barely 61 per cent, which is low compared to the average 80 per cent in the state of Manipur.
