Smuggling attempt foiled near Iron Bridge in Manipur's Chandel

Chandel Battalion of Assam Rifles in a joint operation with Manipur police foiled an attempt to smuggle contraband in Chandel on February 15.

Officials informed that the troops recovered a large quantity of smuggled goods and apprehended four smugglers near Iron Bridge, Khongjol in Chandel.

Acting on specific information regarding smuggling of goods across the Indo-Myanmar border into Manipur, a joint operation of Assam Rifles and Manipur Police was launched to intercept the vehicles carrying smuggled goods. 

At around 6:30 am, the joint team intercepted four vehicles. On thorough checking, smuggled goods worth Rs 1.63 crore were recovered.

The smuggled goods along with the apprehended persons and vehicles were handed over to Chandel Police station for further legal action.
