Professor Amar Yumnam appointed new Vice Chancellor of Manipur University

Manipur University has appointed Professor Amar Yumnam as its Vice-Chancellor with immediate effect on December 14.

The order issued by Professor W. Chandbabu Singh, Registrar of the varsity said, “Jarnail Singh had relinquished the charge of the Administrator, Manipur University on 30 November 2020 and the Office of the Vice-Chancellor had become vacant, it is filled in by the senior most professor of the varsity.”

A professor of economics Amar Yumnam, will perform the duties of the Vice-Chancellor (in-charge) until he attains the age of 65 years or a new Vice-Chancellor assumes the office, whichever is earlier, said the order.

It is said that the Ministry of Education, Department of Higher Education, Government of India vide their letter dated December 11, 2020 have communicated that appropriate action may be taken up by the varsity under the Statute 2 (6) of the Manipur University Act 2005 that include either assigning the duties of the Office of the Vice-Chancellor of the Manipur University to Pro Vice-Chancellor or senior-most professor of the Manipur University.
