Press unions in Manipur pass three resolutions to break impasse

IMPHAL:

After 48 hours of deliberation, the All Manipur Working Journalists Union (AMWJU) and the Editors’ Guild Manipur (EGM) in consultation with the various Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) of the state have arrived at three resolutions.

The three resolutions passed on Friday called for actionable and concrete steps to thwart media houses from being targets of outfits operating in the state.

The AMWJU and EGM condemned the action of the proscribed group United National Liberation Front (UNLF) and stated that the internal disagreements within the proscribed group cannot affect the media fraternity and appealed both sides to mend relationships.

It has also been decided that the media would not publish any news from the UNLF until both parties solve the differences.

The AMWJU and EGM also laid down certain ‘code of conduct’ to enable media houses to function independently and appealed all the stakeholders to respect it.
