The Manipur Students’ Association, Delhi (MSAD) have said that the demand for 4 percent reservation by the Meitei Pangals (Manipuri Muslims) in the category of Other Backward Class (OBC) for admission to various courses is democratic.

In a release that was issued on Friday, MSAD pointed out that the office memorandum, Government of Manipur on 27 December 2006 mentioned the Meitei Pangals have been enjoying 4 per cent reservation in the category of OBCs for appointment in Government posts and services and for admission in professional courses in colleges, so the long pending demand for a fixed percentage in the OBC category for admission to various courses should be fulfilled at the earliest by the state government so that no community is left to feel institutionally discriminated and underprivileged.

It has also urged the government to rectify the irregularities in the selection of candidates for admission to various undergraduate courses in the colleges under Dhanamanjuri University and said that it should institute an inquiry.

The Meitei Pangals (Manipuri Muslims) especially the All Manipur Muslim Student Union (AMMSO) and Pangal Students’ Union, Dhanamanjuri University (PSU-DMU) have been demanding the extension for 4 per cent reservation to all non professional courses in the state run and the central run institutes in the state of Manipur.
