Manipur’s Urmila Chanam wins ‘Laadli Media Award' for Gender Sensitivity 2020

Menstrual Health Activist and Columnist, Urmila Chanam from Manipur received the Laadli Media and Advertising Awards for Gender Sensitivity 2020 in the English print category for her article — “A community awaits electricity and healthcare for 39 years”.

The article was published in ‘The People’s Chronicle’ that highlighted the plight of girls and women due to lack of infrastructure in Ukhrul in Manipur.

“Gender is not an isolated subject. Rather it is the lens through which we should see everything be it childbirth, nutrition, morbidity, mortality, education, livelihood, safety, survival, opportunities and so on,” Urmila Chanam said.

75 media persons received the award and 18 media persons received the jury appreciation citations for their outstanding effort in highlighting gender concerns from across the country in 10 languages.

The Laadli Media and Advertising Awards acknowledges the commendable efforts undertaken by Print and Electronic media and Advertising Agencies, working for the empowerment of women and gender equality.
