Manipur: Truce reached over Ema Kounu Lairembi Shrine

Agreement between representatives of the Leimakhong Chingmang and Leimakhong Area Chief Association was reached under the leadership of Sekmai Assembly constituency’s MLA, H. Dingo Singh and ex-MLA of Saitu Assembly Constituency, Ngamthang Haokip, late on Tuesday.

The Leimakhong Area Chief Association have agreed to apologise to the Leimakhong Chingmang for the incident that occurred on October 4 and October 8, in which the shrine of Ema Kounu Lairembi was partly damaged.

The Leimakhong Area Chief Association has also agreed to take part in the customary rituals and obligations of Ema Kounu Lairembi regarding the “Mikou Thakouba” ritual service and also bear the total expenses for it.

The shrine of the Ema Kounu Lairembi was vandalised during the National Sports University row in which the state was said to be in the verge of a civil war.
