Manipur student body seeks MHRC intervention over non-functioning Jiribam Hospital

IMPHAL:

The Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has brought forward allegations that Jiribam Hospital is functioning in name only.

Following the allegations, the DESAM is also seeking the intervention of the chairperson of the Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) to take necessary action against the hospital and the administration.

Members of DESAM, on Friday, stated that wards of the hospital are closed most of the time, and only one doctor looks after the emergency services.

They also stated that the hospital lacks proper medication and other medical facilities.

The student body informed that despite all this, the doctors still receive their salaries and this has become a matter of great concern for the people living in the area.

“I am aware of the unpunctuality of the staff and doctors posted there. But the absentee doctors were (marked) present in the attendance register of the hospital,” Dr E. Okendro Singh told reporters.

Meanwhile, the student body stated that it considers the situation a sheer case of negligence by the hospital that has made no comments.
