The All Tribal Students’ Union Manipur (ATSUM), All Naga Students Association Manipur (ANSAM) and Kuki Students Organization General Headquarters (KSO GHQ) organised a joint press conference at ATSUM office on Monday.

During the press conference, the unions highlighted the tribal issues and forwarded a charter of demands pertaining to education, health and reservations in Manipur.

ATSUM President Seiboi Haokip said, “Repeatedly, we have apprised the government about the said charter of demands and the state government have said that they will fulfil the demands with the coming of the new year but to no avail.”

The charter of demands by the student unions included regularisation of the contract tribal teachers recruited in 2006, the recruitment of 46 MIL teachers and filling up of 166 backlog ST post for Assistant Professor.

The student bodies also demanded the establishment of a B. Ed centre in the hills.

Further, they also demanded to convert the Indira Gandhi National Tribal University Regional Campus Manipur (IGNTU-RCM) into a full-fledged university.
