Manipur Police seize vast quantity of contraband in drug bust

IMPHAL:

Thoubal police under the command of the Superintendent of Police, S. Ibomcha, on March 7, searched the residence of Md. Maneruddin (49) and recovered a vast quantity of contraband substances and other banned items.

Police recovered heroin weighing 565 grams, 5kg of opium, 1,051.26 kg brown sugar, around 131 litres of morphine, four bottles of Ammonium Chloride with a capacity of 1 kg each, one lime bag marked as star brand lime weighing 9.85 kg, a pair of pressing boards, two iron clamps, two LPG cylinders, two gas stoves, three plastic tubs, four plastic brites, one aluminium tub and two aluminium pots among other items.

In another search operation on the same day, police raided the house of one individual identified as Md. Manergul and recovered 53.720 kg of brown sugar.

The police team also seized Rs. 61,400 and four vehicles, including several two-wheelers with no registration numbers.

Following the seizure, police arrested Md. Yunush Khan (22) of Nungei Mamang Leikai, Bogimayum Sher Shaha (23) of Uchiwa Haotoabi Makha Leikai and Md. Manergul (53) in connection with running the drug racket.

According to official sources, four persons connected to the drug racket network are still absconding.

Meanwhile, cases have been registered against all the suspects under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
