Manipur Police recover huge cache of arms, ammunition

IMPHAL:

Security forces arrested two cadres of the banned United National Liberation Front (UNLF) and recovered a huge cache of arms, ammunition and explosives.

Acting on a tip-off, a team comprising the Additional SP of Manipur Police, O Wangkhomba, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Y Shaktisen, 29-Assam Rifles personnel and the Superintendent of Police (SP), Bishnupur, apprehended the two cadres on Thursday.

Police sources stated that the cadres were planning to plant the explosives and target security forces in Bishnupur.

They also identified one of the arrested as Lanjingba Singh (40), the nephew of UNLF chairman Pambei Khudongbam.

The recovered items included one .32 mm pistol, one .32 mm pistol magazine, one M20 pistol magazine, eight live .32 mm rounds, one improvised explosive device (IED) gelatin pack weighing 415 grams, two detonators, one Exide battery (12V) power source, one electronic safety fuse, one cordless remote control initiator and a pair of Duracell (9V)batteries.

The items were later handed over to Bishnupur Police Station.

Meanwhile, a search operation is underway, and the entire area has been cordoned off.
