Manipur: Police continue Poppy destruction drive

 |

IMPHAL:

Manipur police destroyed approximately 70 acres of poppy plantations on January 19 in continuation with the government order to destroy the banned crop across Manipur.

The District Police Chandel comprising 80 police personnel led by Augustine J Khongsai (ASP) conducted the destruction drive along the hill slope of Thorcham village under Chakpikarong Sub-Division and destroyed the entire cultivation.

Manipur has seen a tremendous increase in drug-related crimes in recent times.

Most of these items are seized or destroyed along the border areas of Myanmar, where reportedly many operatives are working to pump in smuggled goods and drugs into India.
