Manipur Police bust brown sugar factory in Churachandpur district; three held

IMPHAL:

Manipur police on Monday busted a brown sugar factory at T. Bethlehem Village under Tuibong Subdivision in Churachandpur district and recovered several items used for manufacturing and processing the intoxicant.

Three people were arrested in this connection.

Police informed that following a one month of "intense" surveillance, the district busted a brown sugar factory at T. Bethlehem Village under Tuibong Subdivision.

“The raid was part of the State Government's War on Drugs Campaign,” Churachandpur Superintendent of Police Amrita Sinha said.

The arrested persons have been identified as Mangthang Lupheng (42) of P Haijang under Saikul subdivision (currently residing at T Bethlehem village); Seiminthang Lupheng (38) of M. Semol Village under Churachandpur and Lalminsang Ralte (18) of Lhangnom in Jiribam (currently residing at T. Bethlehem village).

The seized items included ammonium chloride, di-ammonium phosphate, lime and 5.3 kgs of opium, besides other items along with a sum of Rs 1 lakh.

Churachandpur Police has registered a case in this connection under ND&PS Act. Further investigation is on till the time of filing this report.
