Manipur Police announce cash reward for information on unidentified bomber

Manipur Police, on Thursday, announced a cash reward of Rs 5,000 for information which could lead to the arrest of a woman who hurled hand grenades at the offices of two Manipuri dailies.

According to reports, an unidentified woman hurled Chinese-made hand grenades at the offices of Manipuri vernacular daily Poknapham and local English daily People's Chronicle on February 13.

"The unknown woman is suspected to be a member of the valley-based extremist organisation who had come on a numberless white scooter and lobbed a Chinese hand grenade inside the gate of Poknapham and People's Chronicle media house at Keishampat Thiyam Leikai in Imphal West," a police official said.

"The damage could have been catastrophic if not for the timely intervention of the bomb disposal team," the official added.

Police have registered an FIR against the woman, and the state government has formed a special four-member investigation team (SIT) to investigate the matter.

The police department has also stated that they will keep the identity of the informant confidential.
