IMPHAL: The National Sports University construction in Manipur has been put on hold after the Konsakhul Area Joint Action Committee (KAJAC) called for an indefinite bandh along national and state highways from January 31.

According to sources, the reason behind the bandh is to send a message to the Manipur government “to stop grabbing tribal lands forcefully for the proposed construction of (the) NSU complex and (to) acknowledge the lawful landowners of Konsakhul village under Senapati district, Manipur as primary stakeholders.”

The committee also stated that they would stop all national projects in Naga areas during the bandh.

“However, essential services including medical emergencies, fire brigade, media, power, water supply and telecommunication will not fall under the purview of the bandh,” the committee stated.
