Manipur: Day after his escape, rape accused lands in police net again

A day after his escape, a man accused of sexually assaulting a minor at Kakching district of Manipur was arrested from Sugnu Sub-Division area on Saturday night.

The accused, Oinam Nanao Singh, was arrested on Friday but managed to escape from Manipur's Sugnu Police station in Kakching.

According to a release issued by the police on Tuesday, soon after his escape, a "frantic" search operation was launched by the District Police and, at about 7:00 pm, the accused was found hiding beneath the bundle of straws in one of the fields at Tejpur Awang Loukol.

"During the search operation, some civilians extended help to District Police in providing assistances in tracing the escaped accused person," the release stated.

The police team has extended their gratitude and appreciation to the civilians for their help in tracing the accused person within a short time.

Rewards along with citations were also handed over to the concerned civilians for their cooperation, stated in the press release.
