IMPHAL:

Residents of Imphal will likely face water shortage in the coming days due to the drastic reduction of water levels in catchment areas, namely the Singda dam coupled with the drying up of the Leimakhong River.

According to a press release issued by the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), the government of Manipur, on Wednesday, said that the treatment plants at Singda, Kangchup and Kangchup Extension water treatment plants (WTPs) are unable to produce the optimum quantity of treated water.

It further stated that despite the department taking up measures to ensure the normal supply of tap water to consumers, all in Imphal west district would be severely affected.

The PHED also advised consumers to limit the use of water until water levels in the sources return to normal.
