Manipur: Huge cache of contraband items seized in Chandel

IMPHAL:

The Assam Rifles, on March 24, foiled a major smuggling attempt in Manipur's Chandel district.

Acting on a tip-off, the troops carried out an operation and recovered a vast quantity of smuggled goods including poppy seeds, furniture made of Burmese teak, betel nut and Chinese cigarettes in five pickup trucks.

The smuggled items were estimated to be valued at Rs 4.01 crore.

The security forces also apprehended 11 smugglers.

The smugglers along with the items were handed over to Chandel Police Station for further legal action.
