IMPHAL:

The Hmar People's Convention Democratic (HPC-D) has issued a clarification stating that the statement made by the Assam Rifles and Manipur Police on the arrest of a cadre belonging to the group on January 24 is ‘untrue’ and ‘baseless’.

According to a press release issued by the group on Friday, they informed that on January 24 at around 7.30 pm, the security forces along with Manipur Police apprehended a person named Jacob of Saikot and not Alan, an HPCD insurgent as claimed by Manipur Police and Assam Rifles.

The clarification read, "Mr Jacob was apprehended from his shop in Saikot after which he was taken in a red-coloured car to Rengkai wherein he was left alone.”

The clarification further stated that the story was framed by the security forces and there were no arms recovered from the possession of Jacob.

It may be mentioned that the Assam Rifles had, on January 28, informed that during a joint operation with Manipur Police, an active cadre of the proscribed Hmar People's Convention Democratic (HPCD), Alan, was apprehended from Liklai area (Churachandpur district) on January 25.

Assam Rifles also claimed that one 9mm Pistol with six live 9mm rounds were also recovered from the cadre’s possession.
