Manipur Sericulture Minister Awangbow Newmai inspected the various sericulture farms of the government beneficiaries along with Sericulture Director L. Kunjakishore Singh and officers in Imphal East district on Wednesday.
Minister Awangbow Newmai said sericulture farming has a huge scope to generate income for the unemployed people in the state.
“I am satisfied with the work of the beneficiaries who are working wholeheartedly to produce more raw silk material,”, said Awangbow Newmai.
Minister Awangbow Newmai also stated that he will visit all the Sericulture farms in Imphal West and Bishnupur districts within this week, and said that the purpose of the visit is to know the ground reality and to interact with the beneficiaries (farmers) to know the various issues faced by them.
He further said that there is a tremendous demand of raw silk material from outside the state which the state cannot fulfil.
The minister also said that the raw silk materials are bought either by the Sericulture Department or by weavers, so there is no need for the farmers to worry about the marketplace to sell their produce.
