IMPHAL:

Congress National President Sonia Gandhi has appointed former minister in the Ibobi Singh Government, Govindas Konthoujam, as the new president of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC).

Congress general secretary and Rajya Sabha MP K.C. Venugopal confirmed the development and stated that the Congress party appreciates the contribution of outgoing MPCC President, M. Okendro.

Taking to his official Twitter handle following his nomination, Govindas Konthoujam uploaded the following tweet: “I am indebted to Madam Sonia Gandhi Ji, Shri K.C Venugopal, Shri Bhakta Charan Das for reposing trust in to further serve the people of Manipur as MPCC president."

The MPCC has been in turmoil ever since it failed to form a government even after it became the single largest party in the 2017 assembly elections.
