Manipur Governor extends greetings on the occasion of ‘Mera Chaoren Houba’

Governor of Manipur, Najma Heptulla, has sent out her greetings on the occasion of Mera Chaoren Houba also known as Mera Hou Chongba.

She tweeted that the said festival is a traditional festival of Manipur and it is celebrated on the advent of Mera-tha (September-October).

The Governor tweeted that the people of Manipur celebrates the festival with religious fervour and gaiety, while the festival also promotes unity and integrity amongst all communities settled in the state.

She further added that she hopes that the festival will strengthen the bond of unity and integrity among the different communities and usher in peace and prosperity in the state.

Chief Minister of Manipur, N. Biren Singh, also has extended his greetings to the people of Manipur on the occasion of Mera Hou Chongba.

In a statement issued by Singh, it said that Mera Hou Chongba endeavours to promote brotherhood, peace and unity among the indigenous communities living in the hill and valley of Manipur.

The festival marks the solidarity among different ethnic groups in Manipur and symbolises the belief in the principle of pluralism and co-existence.

Singh further urged the people to reaffirm the unyielding commitment in maintaining unity and harmony among different communities on this auspicious occasion.
