Manipur: ECI offers clarification over demand to disqualify MLAs

IMPHAL:

The spokesperson for the Election Commission of India (ECI), Sheyphali Sharan, on Wednesday, stated that the ECI never discusses 'privileged communication' in response to a report on the national news portal ‘The Print’ which published an article stating that the “ECI sees no ground for (the) disqualification of 12 Manipur BJP MLAs in the office of profit case.”

MLAs from Manipur, including former Chief Minister O. Ibobi Singh, have been camping in New Delhi and met Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday to discuss the disqualification of the 12 MLAs who held the post of parliamentary secretaries in 2017.

Speaking about the new development vis-à-vis the report from ‘The Print’ and the ECI spokesperson refuting the claim, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) spokesperson, Ningombam Bupenda Meitei took to his official Twitter handle and posted the following tweet, “Should not Raj Bhavan, Manipur clarify on the media reports on not disqualifying the 12 Parliamentary Secretaries in the office of profit from Manipur, after the ECI, through its official spokesperson, clarified that the ECI didn’t discuss a privileged communication?”
